Dear Trader,
If you’re into the trader funding game, you know that there are a lot of options out there. Different companies, different account sizes, different rules…
When I was early on with Apex, I struggled to figure out the best account size to go with.
They range from a $25K account with a max drawdown of $1,500 to a $300K account with a max drawdown of $7,500.
So is it better to go small or go big?
It took me a long time to figure out what was going to work best for me, so the point of this is to hopefully save you some time in the analysis.
Here’s what I came up with…
Both the 25K AND the 300K accounts weren’t a great fit for me owing to my lack of patience. 😳 With the 25K, I didn’t have the patience to trade small enough to work within the confines of the $1,500 trailing threshold, and with the 300K, I didn’t have the patience to make it to the $20K goal without blowing up the account. 🤷🏻♀️
So for me, the “best” turned out to be somewhere in between. A Goldilocks account, if you will. Just right.

Some may argue that since the bigger accounts are all the same price when they’re on sale, why wouldn’t you go big and get the most bang for your buck?
Let’s compare the $150K to the $300K:
$300K: Profit goal = $20,000
Max drawdown = $7,500
$150K: Profit goal = $9,000
Max drawdown = $5,000
With a $150K account, the profit goal is less than half of the $300K, but I still have a $5,000 trailing threshold, which gives me plenty of space to not have to do everything perfectly. To my mind, that ratio makes more sense.
So when I buy a new evaluation these days, I stick to the $150K.
But here’s the bottom line:
What’s best for me might not be best for you, but hopefully you’ll have an easier time figuring out which one is going to be just right for you.
