As we round the corner into this final month of 2024, it’s time to ask yourself: How will you finish this year? Strong? Weak? Somewhere in between?
You see, now is not the time to coast. It’s time to go hard in the paint.
Growing up in Chicago during the Jordan era and having a sports guy for a father, basketball is part of my DNA. 🏀 “Go hard in the paint,” refers to giving your absolute best effort, fully committing to a task, and playing aggressively. “The paint” is the area directly under the hoop where the action is most intense, and points are scored through grit and determination. It’s the perfect metaphor for what this last month calls us to do.
The Final Push
Think back to the goals you set at the beginning of the year. Whether it was growing your trading account, getting funded, improving your health, or deepening your personal relationships, December is your chance to double down and make it happen.
Why? Because momentum matters. How you close out this year sets the tone for 2025. Ending the year with focus and discipline means you’re not just setting goals for next year—you’re building the habits and systems that will help you achieve them.
Time for Extra Discipline
Discipline doesn’t mean perfection—it means consistency. Especially in trading, it’s easy to let emotions, distractions, or the holiday bustle knock you off your game. But this month, every trade you take and every decision you make should align with your bigger vision.
Ask yourself:
- Am I following my trading plan exactly?
- Am I journaling my trades and reviewing my performance?
- Am I protecting my mental and physical energy to show up at my best?
Because here’s the thing… It’s not about doing more—it’s about doing what matters with laser-like focus.
Play Aggressively
Playing aggressively does NOT mean taking reckless risks. It means playing to win. For traders, this could mean being bolder with setups you know work, cutting losses without hesitation, or taking more trades with smaller size to refine your edge.
Aggression in this context is about courage—stepping into opportunities fully, without hesitation, and giving 100% effort. Half-committing to anything—whether it’s a trade, a workout, or a relationship—doesn’t move the needle.
All In, All Month
This final stretch isn’t just about trading; it’s about how you show up in all areas of life. Here’s how to go hard in the paint this month:
- Revisit Your Goals: What’s still achievable? Focus on what will make the biggest impact. 🎯
- Maximize Your Days: Plan each day the night before. Start strong, finish stronger. 💪🏼
- Limit Distractions: Set boundaries with your time and energy. Your focus is your superpower. 🪄
- Celebrate Small Wins: Every step forward counts. Acknowledge your progress and keep building. 🏆
- Stay Healthy: High performance requires a sharp mind and body. So prioritize sleep, exercise, and a diet that fuels you. 🧘🏻♀️
Finish Strong
When the buzzer sounds at the end of the year, how will you feel about the effort you gave?
