I love the New Year’s holiday because it provides both a time for reflection on the past year and a blank slate for the year to come.
Here are a few of my favorite New Year’s rituals — and I’d love to hear yours!
Drop them in the comments below. ⬇️
Clean house:
When Sean and I first moved to Arizona, we lived with our friends Patty and Sheila. This was a tradition in their house so we picked it up from them and I’ve kept it as a part of my New Year’s ritual ever since. Give yourself a boost of serotonin by organizing your space. Your brain will thank you. 🙏🏼
Check expirations:
Get rid of old/expired food, medication, etc.
Unsubscribe:
Go through credit card and bank statements and unsubscribe from anything I haven’t looked at or used in the last 3 months. I just saved $1,906 for 2023 by canceling things like apps and software I wasn’t using or consolidating to one discounted annual payment instead of monthly.
Pay off credit cards, payment plans, etc:
Depending on the size of these debts, it may not be something I can do all at once, but when possible, I pay everything off to go into the new year fresh and clean. For the majority of my life, this wouldn’t have been something I’d be able to do so it feels like a bonus blessing every year that I can.
Cheers to a Lucrative New Year! 🥂
Thanks for the tip on serotonin. I am cleaning up after a depression session of a few weeks. Knowing what I’m experience has always made it even better. Good brain juices 🙂
I start the purge process after Thanksgiving. I do 1,2,& 4. As for things subscribed to, this is cleared out every quarter. Old client & vendor files are cleared out…even though 90% of these files are digital. Anything that has been put off for scanning & filing is done. This has been my end of year routine for at least the last 20+ years.
My ritual is to do a 20-minute meditation starting at 11:50 PM and ending at 12:10 AM, thereby ending the year with silence and starting the new year with silence.
I do my spring cleaning the weeks between Christmas and new years. Especially on a day like today in upstate ny it is 60 degrees (unheard of) I cleaned out the garage and even pulled weeds. Then I can enjoy spring whenever it gets here. Feels so good!
Love your New Years rituals Mindie.
Some of mine include: Making gingerbread houses. My mom did this every year while I was growing up and still does it for my kids.
Also there are always Christmas concerts that my kids are involved in with their choirs and bands etc.
